Workplace Wellness

It’s no secret that work can cause stress, tension-build up, lack of sleep, the list goes on. The COVID-19 pandemic has only worsened these side-effects, by its unknown agenda, unwavering resilience and lack of empathy for the wellbeing of anyone. Whether you’re new to working from home, or have always been a digital nomad, or perhaps COVID didn’t affect your work environment to the extent you were forced home– did you know massage can help ease some of the symptoms you’re feeling? At Mobile Massage, we treat people struggling with persistent stress-related pain, tension built up in their muscles and joints from hours bent over their computers, and more.

Working From Home

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced many of us into our home offices, resorting to zoom for weekly meetings, and swapping home-brew as opposed to Starbucks cold brew (huge savings, we know). Unfortunately, what many people don’t notice when they’re working from home is they still are subject to the same, if not more, stress than when they’re working from an office environment. When they’re working from an office, you get to shut off your ‘work brain’ once you leave the office (depending on your job), however, when you’re working from home, this changes because you’re forced to be in the same environment as your work 24/7.

Many people will begin to suffer from back pain or neck pain, due to hours spent at their makeshift workspace. Since they don’t have their regular breaks scheduled into their workday, there’s no one stopping them from working overtime. Another common symptom is stress headaches, from way too much screen time. Of course, you can get those blue-light glasses, but they can only do so much.

Additionally, if you’re constantly thinking about your work or what’s next on your to-do list, you may struggle with falling asleep at night. Meaning your quality of sleep is being negatively affected.

Prior to COVID-19, many of us (massage therapists included) had a daily routine, often including exercise. If you’re at home, the motivation to work out lessens significantly, when you’re not being forced to drive or walk to a gym setting. A change in routine and reduction in exercise can also put physical stress on our body.
